Marriage On The Rock

“A word of encouragement from a teacher can change a life. A word of encouragement from a spouse can save a marriage. A word of encouragement from a leader can inspire a person to reach her potential.”
— John C. Maxwell

Praying Together as a Couple

Morning Prayer: Start the Day Together

  • Begin each day by asking your spouse if they have anything they’d like prayer for before leaving for work.

  • Take turns praying for each other’s requests, then pray together for your family or others in need.

  • If one spouse is asleep or away, you can pray the night before or over the phone.

Evening Prayer: Grow a Heart to Serve

  • After your day, spend a few minutes praying together to focus on serving each other rather than just seeking comfort.

  • Take turns asking God for help to be a loving, caring, and supportive spouse.

  • Pray for help letting go of stress from the day and staying strong against distractions or temptations.

Bedtime Prayer: Ask for Protection

  • Before going to bed, pray for safety and protection over your home, family, and loved ones.

  • If one spouse goes to bed earlier, they can pray at their bedtime.

Tips for Praying as a Couple

  1. Gently Suggest Prayer

    • Either spouse can propose prayer time. Keep it friendly and voluntary.

  2. Speak Out Loud

    • Don’t worry about how “perfect” your prayer sounds. Speak naturally and honestly—God hears your heart.

  3. Find a Comfortable Position

    • You can pray standing, sitting, kneeling, hugging, or lying down—whatever feels right for both of you.

  4. Keep it Manageable

    • Pray for as long as is comfortable. Even a few minutes is valuable.

  5. Use a Reminder Tool

    • A simple chart or note can help you remember to pray together daily.
